Music is done. It has folded.
Music ends its 12 year run. The committee of the
Tillsonburg Canada Day Festival of Music at its October 2014 meeting decided to
not move forward with planning a festival in 2015 and to disband. With
regret it has therefore been decided that the 2014 festival will be our last.
Dianne Clark, who served as the chairman of the festival,
said “everyone on the committee was in agreement. The lack of volunteers, the
introduction of the town of Tillsonburg’s
difficult Special Event Application and financial support led to the decision.
We are all volunteers on the Festival of Music Committee.” said Clark. “We just didn’t have the volunteer or community
support that we felt would continue to sustain the event. It’s not like this happened
overnight. It’s been waning for years now. Volunteer and community support is
the key to a successful event” she said.
The event was organized by a committee of
volunteers and ran as a not for profit event operating on a donation budget
each year with year ending with a minimal amount available for the following
years. The festival was not gated, without visitors paying admission or
purchasing items within it, all revenues came from government and corporate
“We are very
grateful to our past sponsors and volunteers who made Festival of Music
possible,” the Committee statement concludes. Without both, the festival
couldn’t have continued for the past 12 years.”
“We had a fabulous run,” Clark
said. “Things come to an end. Support for arts organizations in general has
been a struggle in Tillsonburg.”
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED AND ENJOYED THE
FESTIVAL OF MUSIC.
The Tillsonburg Canada Day Festival of Music was
created to be a community family musical event that celebrates the Canada Day,
with a focus on quality programming and live music entertainment. It was
organized by a small committee with the town of Tillsonburg in mind. This festival was to
have something for everyone, highlighting quality creative cultural activities.
of Music was started as a dream of mine to introduce different genres of music
to my family and friends in Tillsonburg while celebrating Canada day.
As a musician I enjoy giving people the opportunity to experience the joy
of music. I am sad to see the demise of the Festival of Music. BUT
I am thankful to everyone who supported it and enjoyed coming to our event for
the last 12 years.
